Sandra de Montbrun MD, PhD is a colorectal surgeon within the Division of General Surgery at St. Michaels Hospital and is an Assistant Professor and Surgeon Scientist at the University of Toronto.
Her research interests and academic focus lie in the assessment of technical competence and the evaluation of advanced technical skill. She has been working with both the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery to develop an objective structured assessment of technical skill for colorectal graduates. This summative assessment is currently being further developed and evaluated, with the plans of incorporating the exam into the colorectal board certification process. She is presently working with the American College of Surgeons in developing technical skills assessment for General Surgery residents.
