
- Attila Nakeeb, MD
Dr. Attila Nakeeb is the Chair of General Surgery at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts. He is a Professor of Surgery at UMass Chan – Lahey. His clinical and research interests are in surgical management of gastrointestinal diseases, with an emphasis on benign and malignant HPB disorders. Dr. Nakeeb received his baccalaureate degree from Cornell University and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He subsequently completed general surgery residency and an advanced gastrointestinal surgery fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital under John Cameron, MD. After starting his career in 1999 as an attending surgeon at Froedert Memorial Lutheran Hospital and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Nakeeb moved to Indiana in 2003. He spent the next 20 years as part of the Indiana University Health system, where he was an attending surgeon at University Hospital in Indianapolis and a member of the Indiana University School of Medicine faculty. Initially appointed as Associate Professor of Surgery, Dr. Nakeeb rose to Professor in 2010. During his tenure, he won numerous medical student and resident teaching awards. From 2011 to 2023 he served as the section head of HPB surgery within the Division of Surgical Oncology.
