
- James Byrne, MD, PhD
Dr. James Byrne is a trauma and acute care surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He received his medical degree at Trinity College Dublin before training in general surgery at the University of Toronto. He then completed a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health during his residency. Following residency, he completed fellowships in trauma surgery and surgical critical care at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He practiced as a trauma surgeon and intensivist at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore before moving back to Vancouver, his hometown.
